Thunder Bots South Jersey Regional Champions

The Thunder Bots are the South Jersey Regional champions and they are advancing to the 2023 FIRST Lego League World Championship! This has been an exciting journey for this local South Jersey Robotics team that began in September at the Mullica Hill Library. The Thunder Bots competed at Rowan University on Saturday, February 25th in the regional championship event. They won the prestigious Champions Award and are the first FLL Challenge team from the South Jersey Robotics organization to advance to the World Championship competition. This season’s competitions began in January, when they competed in the regional qualifier at the Moorestown Upper Elementary School. They earned  the Robot Performance Award for the event-high score of 270 points, and the Innovation Project Award for their idea that can save squirrels and can help to prevent power outages. They designed a non-conductive polymer lid for electric distribution transformers that would replace the current metal lid. Their design increases the distance between the grounded transformer case and the high-voltage primary bushing. It also eliminates the need for add-on bushing covers that are prone to failure and are often improperly installed. Coincidentally, their idea and theme is to save the squirrels, and their first competition fell on National Squirrel Appreciation Day! This SJR team is a community-based team ranging in age from 9 to 14 and they are excited to travel to Houston, Texas in April to compete in a once in a lifetime opportunity on an international stage!

They cannot do it without your help. Please consider donating towards their expenses for travel, lodging, and meals by clicking green button below so they can show the world what a STEM DREAM TEAM looks like!
